Formed in late 2007, the idea of Man Ray Sky was to take the tried and tested format of melodic songs with verses and choruses and merge them with improvised noise. This initial concept has lead to the band becoming a powerfully engaging live presence on the Brighton music scene.
The sound of Man Ray Sky live can be an intense affair, with melodic lullabies brushing up against experimental noise pieces; the two opposing but strangely complementary sides of Man Ray Sky. Musically, the band members all have different influences but they share many important ones. In fact, their differences can help to make ideas very interesting…
Plaudits have come from far and wide, with influential Brighton music and lifestyle magazine The Source noting that “bits of My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth vie with modernist Radiohead-tinged arrangements… it wraps you up in a lovely blanket of guitars and whispers in your ear that everything’s going to be alright”
More praise has come from highly-respected musician Ken Stringfellow (one half of The Posies and keyboardist for R.E.M.) who “can recommend superb indie rock from Man Ray Sky… an excellent set of tunes!”
The band teamed up with The Hook Up on a management deal in late 2009 and is now focusing on writing new material for their forthcoming album.
